April 22, 2013 Frankfurt, Germany – The Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA) and the Richmond Olympic Oval Corporation are pleased to announce that the Richmond Olympic Oval located in the city of Richmond, Canada, will be home to the 1st TAFISA World Martial Arts Games.   The games will be held in September 2014, and as the first of their kind, will encompass a martial arts festival that combines interactive demonstrations followed by a competition event that will showcase the community of Sport for All martial arts athletes from around the world.  Full details of the event will be released shortly.

 “This is truly a historic beginning to an idea that came to life more than 3 years ago”, said Ken Marchtaler, newly appointed TAFISA Martial Arts Commissioner, “I look forward to being part of the Committee that brings the 2014 TAFISA World Martial Arts Games to life!”

“Richmond is very excited to be selected as host for the first ever TAFISA World Martial Arts Games,” said Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “Richmond has a rich history in supporting martial arts and the Richmond Olympic Oval has proven itself as an outstanding venue having hosted a variety of combative sport competitions. We look forward to welcoming the world in 2014.”

The Richmond Olympic Oval is a breathtaking venue on the banks of the Fraser River located in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada and is a winner of the Institution of Structural Engineers top award for Sports or Leisure Structures.
